We are pleased to announce that Transport for London have been awarded “Best Horticultural Display on Public Highway 2014 ” This was for the Park Lane formal planting, that is located in and around the animal War memorials. PGSD Ltd are the subcontractors responsible for the public highway maintenance of this location. We work in conjunction with CVU (a Colas Volker Union), we have been maintaining the Park Lane location since 2008.
Each year we plant two seasonal installations, these take around 2-3 weeks to complete.
Winter
39,000 Arma Tulip bulbs are planted into the 21 beds.
After the bulb planting we install 39,000 mixed Polyanthus into the beds.
Summer
35,000 mixed Geraniums are planted into 17 beds and a variety of bee friendly wild flowers were installed into the remaining four.
In 2013 TFL were awarded 2nd place, but this was not enough for the hard working staff involved.
It was especially important that the memorials and planting were in excellent shape for the Centenary Remembrance Day in November 2014.
Comment from Transport for London…
“This is quite an achievement and is a reflection of the hard work that has gone into this site over the last twelve months from TfL, CVU and PGSD”
