M40 motorway vegetation clearance and tree work

We have worked alongside Graham Construction on several projects. They asked PGSD to help with vegetation clearance, tree take-down (including climbing very large trees) and removal of stumps to clear an area for installation of Noise Barriers along the M40 motorway.

Work was started at the beginning of 2018 and is ongoing at several sections of the M40 between Junctions 3 and 8. Some areas are on high, steep embankments above the motorway.

This project included specialist arborist teams; equipment included chainsaws, track chippers, stump grinders and strimmers.

The client received a short lead-in turnaround and availability during night time and at weekends. Additional team members were made available, when required. The client has been immensely pleased with the speed and progress our teams have made. Throughout, PGSD has paid considerable attention to safe systems of working, including completing site-specific Risk Assessments each day due to the differing terrain and conditions.

Tree planting project in Church Street, Leatherhead, Surrey

PGSD was asked to help with a tree planting project in Church Street, Leatherhead, Surrey. This was a high profile job working alongside Mole Valley District Council.

Initially, the trees supplied were too large, which meant that we had to reject them as they would not fit in the tree pits designed and built by main contractor.

We planted four Box Head Lime trees. The new trees were anchored underground with irrigation pipe, back filled with tree sand.

The trees will enhance Church Street for many years to come.

CVU West Cromwell Road

Over the past 12 weekends, we have been attending West Cromwell Road for a large job of repollarding 13 fully mature London Plane trees (Platanus ×acerifolia).

Most of the trees were touching properties, so we had to use all of our experience to lower, and speed line the branches over the wall, therefore avoiding properties and garden furniture.

CVU is a joint venture between VolkerHighways Colas and AECOM and is currently delivering the Central London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC) for TfL (Transport for London).

Wandsworth Roundabout

Wandsworth Roundabout is a TFL (Transport For London) asset. For for the last 10 years, PGSD Limited has mown the wild grass six times per year and cleaned up once a year.

For a variety of reasons, the site was attracting litter. PGSD received an instruction through CVU London Highways Alliance (contracted to TFL) to completely clear the area, only leaving the trees. The project included the installation of new turf to create a park like area for local residents to use.

Alan Davidson from TFL had a vision of bringing the area back as a pleasant place to be which could be enjoyed by the public.

The photograph shows the work in progress.

Remembrance Sunday 2016

During the weeks before Remembrance Sunday on 13th November 2016, PGSD Limited, on behalf of Hounslow Highways, visited a number of the memorials on the public highway in Hounslow to carry out maintenance work to shrubs as well as weed spraying and sweeping.

An early morning visit was made to the memorials on Remembrance Sunday itself at 5:00am, in order to conduct a final tidy up and sweep. Then PGSD placed on and around the memorials 39 large potted chrysanthemums. The flowers were funded by Hounslow Highways and supplied by PGSD. The result was that everything was ready for the Remembrance Service. The subtle yet visual improvement was appreciated by those who gathered together to remember the fallen.
